Mrs. J. Joan Woodman, 59, a resident of Kalkaska County for the past 40 years died Monday, Aug 26, 1991 at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
Mrs. Woodman served as Kalkaska County Undersheriff and Matron from 1959 to 1976, and was affiliated with St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was a member of A.A.R.P., and was a former Cub Scout Den Mother ,4-H Leader, and active in the Kalkaska High School Band Boosters.
Mrs. Woodman was born in Jackson on Feb 2, 1932 to Benjamin and Fay Marie Wolfe Strahan. On Sep 24, 1949, in South Boardman, she was united in marriage with Earl. M. Woodman who preceded her in death on Sep 29, 1983.
Surviving are two sons, Michael Woodman of Papua New Guinea, and Patrick Woodman of Fort Wayne, IN; two daughters ,Susan Fender of South Boardman, and Cindy Saxton of Johannesburg; one brother, John Strahan of Gold Creek, MT; two sisters, Fay Darlington of Palm Beach, FL, and Elnora Vader of Escanaba; 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
One son, Jesse, and one grandson, Joseph, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Thu, Aug 29, 1991, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kalkaska. Rev. Ted Turanski officiated. Burial was in Boardman Township Cemetery, Kalkaska County.
