Irene Schwencer, 96, of North Blue Lake in Kalkaska County, died Fri, Jan 21, 2000, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
She was born on Oct 11, 1903, in Enid, OK, the daughter of Albert and Mary (Stearns) Fruin.
On Nov 20, 1924, in Battle Creek, she married Albert Schwencer Sr. They had lived in Battle Creek until her retirement from the Kresge's Department Store in 1965. They then moved to North Blue Lake in Kalkaska County. Mr. Schwencer died in Mar 1971.
Irene was a very active member of the Mancelona United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling and playing board games.
Irene is survived by children Wanda (Jack) King of Silverdale, WA, Albert (Barbara) Schwencer of Sunderland, MD, William (Irene) Schwencer of Great Falls, MT, and Robert (Barbara) Schwencer of Washington, UT; 14 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and sister Marion Ketcham of Battle Creek.
She was also preceded in death by daughter Irene Rogers in 1961; brother Traverse Fruin; and sisters Easter Violet Curtis and Agnes Sherwood.
Funeral services were Jan 25 at the Penzien Funeral Homes Inc in Mancelona; Rev Carol Floyd officiated. A graveside service will be Wed, Jan 26 at 11 am at Memorial Park Cemetery in Battle Creek.
Memorials may be given to Mancelona United Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Association.
