Ira Butler Jr, 66, of Abilene, Texas, died Sun, Feb 7, 1993 in the hospital.
He was born in Jones County Texas on Oct 9, 1926, to Ira J and Clarice Moore Butler. He graduated from Hamlin High School in 1945. On Mar 9, 1947, he married Sue Jean in Fisher County and they lived in Hamlin, Texas; Farmington, New Mexico and Kalkaska, MI; before returning to Abilene in 1987.
Mr. Butler returned from Shell Pipe Line as a mechanical technician in 1987 after 36 years of service. He was a member and served as a deacon at the Southwest Park Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict.
Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Aleese Butler of Irving, TX; three brothers, David Butler of Medina, TX, and Milton Butler and Othel Butler, both of Ft Worth, TX; three sisters, Martha Bray of Salt Lake City, UT and Wanda Sanders and Betty Smart both of Arlington, TX; his mother in law, Arah Jean of Abilene; two brothers in law, T.W. Jean of Abilene and Billy Jean of Waco; two sisters in law, Sarah Thompson of Lubbock and Nina Beazley of Dallas; several uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Services were held Tue, Feb 9, at the Southwest Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Woodward and Rev. Glenn Meredith of Midway Road Baptist Church in Dallas officiating. Burial was in the Hamlin East Cemetery directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.
