Hugo H. Bachmann, 83, a retired Kalkaska businessman, died Saturday evening, Nov 9, 1991 at Munson Medical Center. 

Mr. Bachmann moved to Kalkaska in 1952 from Bay City to open Bachmann's Department Store. He had previously been employed by J.C. Penney and Sears, Roebuck and Co. He was a 1926 graduate of Ludington High School, and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Bachmann was the charter vice president, and later president of the Kalkaska Rotary Club, and was honored in 1988 as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and Land O'Lakes V.F.W. Post 8684. 

Mr. Bachmann was born in Sheridan, WY on Dec 29, 1907 to Hugo and Margarette Stetzke Bachmann. He was first married to Alice Clendenen in 1934 in Anderson, IN. He later married Grace Laidlaw on Nov 12, 1940 in Bay City. She died in 1972. In 1977, in Kalkaska, he was married to Esther Deman who survives. 

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Ronald Bachmann of Dayton, OH; one daughter, Katherine Stacey of Grand Rapids; one stepson, Dennis Deman of Frederic; two step daughters, Jeaneene Nooney of Kalkaska, and Gayle DeBruyn of Schoolcraft; three brothers, Paul Bachmann of Central Lake, Ervin Bachmann of CA, and Norman Bachmann of Cadillac; four grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. 

Two brothers, Theodore and Karl Bachmann, preceded him in death. 

Funeral services were held Tue, Nov 12, 1991 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Rev. Ted Turanski officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska under the auspices of Land O'Lakes Post. 

Memorial gifts to St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund will be appreciated.
