Herman F. Luhrs Jr, 73, of Traverse City, died Feb 10, 1998, at Birchwood Nursing Home.
The son of the late Herman and Dorothy (Tate) Luhrs was born Jun 1, 1924 in Flint. He married Peg Morrison on Oct 28, 1944 in Ludington. He was a veteran of WWII, where he served in the Asiatic-Pacific area, in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked all his career in the automotive field and was an instructor at Ferris State College, and Northwestern Michigan College. He and his wife Peg owned and operated Luhrs Landing on the Torch River for many years. Herman was an avid sportsman and well known for his fishing. He enjoyed and loved people.
He is survived by daughters Dorothy (Wayne) Trombley, Lynn (Gary) Herbers of Kalkaska, Patty (Bill) Springstead of Traverse City and Peggy (Brad) Beal of Austin, TX; sisters Betty Eckert, pat Montpellier, Nancy Dunn, Jeane Burke and Judy Luhrs; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of Herman's life this summer. Please contact family to be notified when and where. Arrangements were handled by Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
