Herbert G. Ponting, age 77, of Sandusky, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017 with his loving family by his side at United Hospice Service of Marlette Regional Hospital in Marlette.
He was born February 9, 1940 in Sandusky, son of the late George and Edith Ponting. Herb graduated from Sandusky High School with the Class of 1958. He married Sharon Rich on June 4, 1960 in Sandusky. Herb served our country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era.
He attended First United Methodist Church in Sandusky. Herb owned and operated H & S Custom Services and then was the Manager at a local Agricultural Crop Production Business. He loved spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing, gardening and snowmobiling.
Herb is survived by his wife, Sharon Ponting of Sandusky; four children, Julie (Jim) Dral of Port Sanilac, Denise Mazei of Sandusky, Shelly (Ken) Willis of Royal Oak and Michael Ponting of Sandusky; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy (Jennifer) and Danielle Dral, Jessica and Jennifer Mazei, Riley Provost, Olivia and Sophie Willis, Courtney, Ryan, Isabella, and Italia Ponting; and seven great grandchildren, Keegan, Kailee, Addisyn, Cole, Grace, Avery, and Andrew.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Dale Ponting.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 pm Friday, July 14, 2017 at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Sandusky with Pastor Jeff Nelson officiating. The family will receive visitors from 11 am until time of the service.
A Private Burial will take place in Downing Cemetery at a later date.
