Mistaken for a deer, Vesper Judkins, of Fife Lake, was shot and killed by his father, Louis Judkins, in the woods near Esseltine, on the Upper Peninsula, Tue afternoon.
The young man wore a tan colored hunting coat, and the older man seeing this, mistook him for a deer, and fired. He then rushed to the spot expecting to find the animal but instead was horrified to come upon his son writhing upon the ground, shot through the pit of the stomach.
The boy was given temporary medical attendance and the hunting party took the first train towards home, but the injured man died while they were crossing the Straits of Mackinac.
Judkins leaves behind a young wife and child, and parents prostrated with grief over the distressing accident.
Vesper Judkins was first trick operator at Walton Junction and the father was operator at Fife Lake. The son was employed in the G.R. & I. office here two years ago.
