Helen Smith, 95, passed away at 7:55 am on May 6, 2023 at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center.
Helen was born on Jul 5, 1927, in Ada, OH, to Wayne and Anna (Elzay) Wright. She married Dan R. Smith on Nov 16, 1946.
Helen was a graduate of Ada High School. She worked for Commercial Motor Freight, Rawles Tire Division, and she later retired from Dan R. Smith & Son Plumbing and Heating. Helen was a member of Cairo United Methodist Church, a life member of VFW 1275 Auxiliary, BPOE- Lima Lodge #54, a former member of the Eagles Auxiliary, Elketts bowling and golf league, and a member of the Alpha Theta Sorority. Helen also enjoyed painting, crafting, and gardening.
She is survived by her children, Bradley (Sharon) Smith, Ronald Smith and Beverly “Bev” (Ron) Best; her grandchildren, Lonnie (Stacey) Smith, Matthew (Kim) Best, Brian (Jennifer) Best, Lisa (John) Smith, and Larua Best; step grandson, Conner Pickens; nine great grandchildren; and one sister, Patty Betz of Kenton, OH.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and siblings, Evelyn Fleming, Rosinna Wright, Betty Jo Klingler, Cecil Williams, Shirley Wright, Norma Davis, Phyllis Vermillion, Ralph Wright, Leo Wright, Ray Wright, Floyd Wright, Gary Wright, Wayne Lewis, and Bill Wright.
The family will receive friends from 2 pm to 8 pm on Tue, May 9, 2023, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, OH. A funeral service will begin at 11 am on Wed, May 10, 2023, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, with visitation one our prior to service. Pastor Tom Fleming will officiate. Burial will follow at Bluelick Cemetery, Lima.
