Helen Skedel Taylor, 97, of Wheeling, WV, went to be with the Lord on Mon, May 22, 2023, at WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital.
She was born Easter Sun, Apr 4, 1926, daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Skedel.
Helen was a Christian homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening. She was a member of the Short Creek United Methodist Church, where she served on both the board and the JOY Circle. Her beautiful penmanship graced many signs for church events.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Webb “Webbie” Taylor; son Dr. James Webb Taylor; brothers, Frederick, Otto, Alexander, and Rudolph; infant sister, Elizabeth; and sister, Mary.
She is survived by her children, Anna Louise “Ann” Otten and husband Greg of Houston, TX; Charles Taylor and wife Linda of Rochester, PA; and Darlene Shoaf and husband Curtis of Wheeling, WV. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Michael Otten, Eric Otten and wife Amanda, Jacqueline Taylor Strohkorb and husband Jason, Ian Taylor, Laren Taylor Crow and husband Hayden, and Amanda Shoaf; six great grandchildren: Joshua and Joceyln Strohkorby, Luke, Alice and Helen Otten and Hector Crow; brother, David Skedel of Valley Grove, WV; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Wed, Jun 7, 2023 at 2 pm at Short Creek United Methodist Church.
Interment in Short Creek Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in her name.
