Helen O. (Fischer) Hein, 93, of Traverse City, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at Bortz Health Care.
Helen was born April 18, 1912, to Edward and Caroline (Moe) Olson in Suttons Bay. She married Herman Fischer in 1931. He passed away in 1957. On May 16, 1959, she married Louis Hein, who passed away in 1980.
Helen worked for the State Hospital for many years as a launderer.
She loved to play Euchre, dance and do handicrafts. She was very active in the Woman’s organization at church.
Helen is survived by a daughter, Karleen Hoy of Traverse City; daughter-in-law, Carol Fischer of Indian River; sister, Betty Johnson of Plymouth; sister-in-law Hennrietta Olson of Traverse City; four grandchildren, Kathy (Sam) Johns of San Marcos, Calif., Vickie (Ross) Schuch of Traverse City, Mike Hoy of Acme and granddaughter-in-law, Gina Hoy of Interlochen; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both husbands, Herman Fischer in 1957 and Louis Hein in 1980; son, Gordon Fischer in 1991; grandsons, Richard Fischer in 1988 and Randy Hoy in 1998; three brothers, Edward, Louis and Albert Olson; three sisters, Laura Hoyt, Evelyn Meek and Josephine Herman; and son-in-law, Lee Hoy in 2003.
Helen will be greatly missed by her family and friends but left many wonderful memories behind that will always be cherished.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 10, 2005, from 7 to 9pm, at the Covell Funeral Homes of Traverse City. A funeral will take place Saturday, June 11, 2005, at 3:30pm, also at the funeral home, where Kathy Johns and Vickie Schuch will be the celebrants. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City.
