Helen Maxine Bennett, 90, passed away at 10 am Thu, Oct 22, 2015 at I.U. Health Blackford Community Hospital ER.
She was born in Hartford City on Sep 3, 1925 to Samuel Murl Lanning and Vera L (Hummer) Lannnig. Both parents precede her in death.
Helen graduated from Hartford City High School in 1943. She married Kenneth “Kenny” Wayne Bennett on Oct 31, 1959 at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Hartford City. He precedes her in death on May 30, 2015.
She had worked at 3M Company and Redmond’s Drug Store in her early years. She was also the co owner and operator of Bennett Antiques in Hartford City. She was an avid doll collector, bear collector, and antique collector. She and her late husband, Kenny were the collector of collectors having collected antiques from throughout the United States, China, Mexico, and Canada. Among the extensive collections of Helen and Kenny were rocks, Native American Relics, toy banks, clocks, coins and guns just to name a few. She and Kenny were avid supporters of the Native American Schools on the Reservations.
She was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Hartford City.
Helen will be sadly missed by her sons, Ron D. (wife, Beth) Bennet of Naples, FL, Larry (wife, Marge) Bennett of Muncie, Richard M Yount of Palm Springs, CA; daughters, Sandra S Willmann of Hartford City, Lora Kay Woods of Hartford City, Denise Lynn (husband, Dave) Shull of LaGrange, IN; grandchildren, Eddie (wife, Michelle) Mattson, James Bennett, Jeremiah Shull, Krista Bermeo, Rhonda R. Atkins, Ryan Scott Bennett, Tonetta Mattson; fifteen great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; aunt, Ruth Flatter of Sturgis, MI.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; grandchildren, Debbie Camron, Keith Bennett, Nathan Shull, Steven Hummer, and brother, Everett Lanning.
Funeral services are 11 am Fri, Oct 30, 2015 at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 North High Street, Hartford City. Burial will be at Gardens of Memory in Muncie.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 pm and 6 to 8 pm Thu, Oct 29, 2015 and from 9 to 11 am Fri, Oct 30, 2015 at Keplinger Funeral Home.
