Harvey Dorsey was life long resident of Leelanau.
Harvey Dorsey of Empire passed away suddenly, Jun 21, 1935, at the age of 73 years, 4monts, 22 days.
The deceased was born in Glen Arbor, Jan 29, 1862. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Dorsey, who were among the early settlers of this region. When seven years of age, his parents moved to the place, where the farm now is on Glen Lake and that was his home until his death. It was then a wilderness and the country was beginning it's struggle to recover after the Civil War, in which his father served. Like others of his time it was his lot to blaze the trails that were to become our present highways, and till the soil to earn a livelihood. It was with pride and satisfaction that comes with years of honest toil and faithful service, that he could look back over more than three score years and feel that he had truly played a part in the development of a vast wilderness, into one of the nation's beauty spots.
Although in his declining years he was not in the best of health, he never failed to be keenly interested in most all public affairs. He had held various public offices and except for the past winter which he spent in Florida, he had been an Odd fellow member for many years.
Mr. Dorsey is survived by four brothers, George and family of Glen Lake, Ralph and wife of Frankfort, Arthur and family of Petoskey, Volney and family with whom he made his home, of Glen Lake. A brother, Henry preceded him in death eight years, and a sister died in infancy. He never married.
The funeral services were held from the home, Sunday afternoon. Rev. Lewis of Traverse City officiating. The host of friends who paid their last respects bespoke the esteem in which he was held in the community.
He was laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemtery, where members of the Odd Fellow Lodge conducted an impressive ceremony.
