Harold R. DeMeritt, 90, of Kalkaska, died Thu, Jun 1, 1995, at Birchwood Nursing Center in Traverse City.
Mr. DeMeritt had been an interior designer for department stores in Indianapolis, IN, St. Louis, MO, Dubuque, IA, Huntington, WV, and Detroit. He operated a restaurant in Onaway for 12 years prior to moving to Kalkaska in 1972. He was a founding member of the Kalkaska United Methodist Church, and enjoyed flowers, cooking, and music.
Mr. DeMeritt was born in Prattville on Feb 11, 1905, to Edward and Myrtie Pixley DeMeritt. On Oct 16, 1937, in Indianapolis, he married Harriette Leake who survives.
Also surviving are son David DeMeritt of Alpena; daughters Eleanor Schmidt of Onaway and Cynthia Wehde of Farmington Hills; brother Wallace DeMeritt of Toledo, OH; and two grandchildren.
One brother, four half brothers, and two half sisters preceded him in death.
Memorial services will be held Sat, Jun 10, 1995, at the Kalkaska United Methodist Church. Rev. Charles VanLente will officiate. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci, MI. Memorials gifts may be made to the Kalkaska United Methodist Church.
