Harold J. "Sam" Kaufman, 78, passed away peacefully on Tue, Oct 11, 2005.
Sam was born in Battle Creek on Dec 13, 1926.
Same served his country proudly in the Korean War and married Therese L "Terry" Shedesky on Apr 7, 1955.
Sam also served his communities as a teacher in biology-chemistry at Westland High School, the dean of business at Mid Michigan Community College near Clare, the business manager under the superintendent of schools in Charlevoix, and as the director of a four county mental health institution.
Sam is survived by his wife, Terry, of 50-plus years; sons, Joseph (Susan) and Frank (Martha); three granddaughters, Sarah Elizabeth, Melissa Faith, and Hannah Noelle; and his sister, Virginia Kaufman.
Sam had many friends, was well known in his community and loved people.
Sam enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also devoted a significant part of his life providing for the mentally and physically disabled. He was an extremely generous person, and had a firey spirit.
Anyone who knew Sam or even met him will never forget him.
He was one-of-a-kind, always had a smile on his face found humor in life, yet spoke his mind when he needed to. He will be greatly missed.
