Harley D. Baker, 78, 305 N. Eucalyptus, died Saturday in Ball Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
Born in Hartford City, he graduated from high school there and moved to Delaware County in 1929. He worked at Warner Gear Division (now Borg-Warner Automotive, Transmission Systems), retiring in 1972 after 27 years. He also farmed east of DeSoto 1959-74.
Mr. Baker was a member of the Warner Gear Sympathy Club and United Auto Workers Local 287. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific with the Marine Corps.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Vivian; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Ann) Kelsey, Springfield, MO; a brother, Robert Baker, Muncie; a sister, Lodell Stragand, Dayton, OH; a granddaughter and two great grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 am Tuesday in Richman Funeral Home, Yorktown Chapel. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery.
Calling is 3 to 8 pm today at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to the Oncology Department of Ball Memorial Hospital.
