Harley A. McGinn of Battle Creek, 98, died Sept 22, 2011. Harley was born Feb 28, 1913 in Olivet to Barney and Addoline (Morgan) McGinn. He worked as a machinist for 38 years at the Ralston Cereal Company.
Harley enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, playing the harmonica, hunting, camping, playing card games and dominoes. He boxed and later taught Golden Glove Boxing for many years, and his son went on to become a professional boxer. He worked in Traverse City at the U.S. Civilian Conservation corp. and was a member of the Ralston 25 year club.
Harley is survived by his two daughters, Ann (Hugh) Garity and Virginia (Paul) Budd; two sons, Ronald “Jake” McGinn and Harley (Michelle) McGinn; his grandchildren, Tom, Ron, and Rhonda Copeland, Mike and Darin McGinn, Carol (Ken) Tallent, Bryant and Kevin (Barbie) Burdick, nine great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. Harley was preceded in death by his loving wife Evelyn and his grandson Faron McGinn.
At the request of the family, they will receive friends on Tue, Sept 27, 2011 from 10 to 12 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow immediately at Hicks Cemetery at 12:30pm, officiated by Pastor Don Francis.
