Grace Stebbins died Sept. 16, 2002, at Palm Gardens in Gainesville, Fla. after a lengthy illness. She was born in Grayling. on Dec. 23,1912.
Mrs. Stebbins was a graduate of Grayling High School, and upon graduation trained to become a registered nurse at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, where she was employed as an ENT nurse until the outbreak of World War II. When the war started, she enlisted in the United States Army and served her country as a First Lieutenant for the duration of the war. After the war, she was employed as a nurse by the W.W. Kellogg Foundation in Battle Creek, and later by the Nash Kelvinator company. She later moved to Kalkaska where she was a public health nurse, making home visits and tending to the needs of the elderly and homebound.
She was also the co-founder and first administrator of the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center at its inception in 1956.
Mrs. Stebbins was a member of the Palm Bay United Methodist Church, and a loyal and dedicated servant to her Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Stebbins.
Grace was survived by her son, Paul Newell; two grandchildren, three great- grandchildren, 13 step-children and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Stebbins chose to be cremated, and her family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the Palm Bay United Methodist Church, 2100 Port Malabar Blvd. N.E., Palm Bay, FL 32905.
