Mrs. Gertrude F. Wood, 84, of Rapid City, died Fri, Jun 18, 1993 at her residence.
Mrs. Wood had been a lifelong resident of Kalkaska County. She was a graduate of Kalkaska High School, Kalkaska County Normal School, and attended Central Michigan University and Western Michigan University. She taught at the Rice Hill and Saunders Schools in Kalkaska County. Mrs. Wood was a member of the Rapid City Birthday Club, the Rugg Hall Club, the Kalkaska County Historical Society, the Pioneer Picnic Association, and the Farm Bureau. She had an avid interest in education, and enjoyed music, gardening, photography, traveling and her friends and family.
Mrs. Wood was born in Kalkaska County on Jan 22, 1909, to Claude and Lottie (McKinnis) Fry. On Oct 12, 1931, in Angola, IN, she was united in marriage with Percy Wood who preceded her in death on Nov 11, 1976.
One brother, Irving Fry, also preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald Wood of Hillman and Larry Wood of Rochester, New York; two daughters, Phyllis Senske of Grand Mound, Iowa and Marilyn Richardson of Three Rivers; one brother, Vernon Fry of Kalkaska; 12 grandchildren and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Mon, Jun 21, 1993, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Rev. Paul Karges, pastor of The Peoples Church, officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.
