George Wayne Brooks, born Nov 11, 1934 – died Feb 5, 2022.
George Wayne Brooks, 87, of Dixon, passed away on Sat, Feb 5, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family in Dixon, IL. He had many occupations throughout the years including artificially breeding cows for Northern Illinois Breeding Co-op, and relaying papers for Rockford Register Star. Prior to retiring, he sold restaurant equipment to local restaurants.
George was born Nov 11, 1934, at home on his family farm, the son of George Winfield and Alberta Ruthe (Owen) Brooks. He married Carolyn Plumb on Dec 30, 1956, at Polo Church of the Brethren in Polo, IL. George was a long time member of Dixon Church of the Brethren in Dixon, IL, and served the church in many capacities over the years. He was on the Brookville Lutheran Cemetery Board for numerous years and a member of the American Legion Post #12. He served in the US Army from 1956-1958. George enjoyed collecting antique milk bottles, refinishing furniture, and attending local parades. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and attending any event his grandchildren were participating in.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Brooks of Dixon; four children, David (Pam) Brooks, June Fordham, Alan (Erika Hernandez) Brooks, Andrew (Julie) Brooks all of Dixon; eleven grandchildren, Kristina (Ryan) McWethy, Benjamin (Rachael Manuel) Brooks, Elizabeth (Casey) Kalas, Melissa Fordham, Shayla Brooks, Aaron Brooks, Colton Brooks, Oliva Brooks, Owen Brooks, Emily Brooks, Joel Brooks; three great grandchildren, Carter McWethy, Logan House, Mazelee Brooks; numerous nieces and nephews.
George was precede in death by his parents; two sisters, Helen Wolber, Leonor Mumford; and one son in law, Robert Fordham.
Memorial visitation will be from 10 am until the time of memorial service at 11 am on, Sat, Feb 9, 2022, at Dixon Church of the Brethren in Dixon, IL, with Rev. Blaine Miner, officiating. Cremation Rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
