George P. Brignac Sr., 85, of Kalkaska, passed away on April 6, 2003, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Long Term Care.
He was born Dec. 10, 1917, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of George and Margaret (Reiter) Brignac.
George was known to many of his friends as "G.P." He served in the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant and was an aircraft mechanic instructor during WW II. After the war, he married Anna Marie Coffey on June 20, 1946, in Wichita Falls, Texas. They were residents of Kalkaska since 1974, moving from Gaylord.
George was employed at Shell Oil Co. for 40 years and retired in 1988. He was a eucharistic minister and usher of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church. George was the financial secretary and Deputy Grand Knight and a third-degree member of St. Joseph the Worker Council No. 7419 in Kalkaska, and also a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Grand Traverse Assembly No. 499.
George enjoyed the company of both new and old friends at the Kalkaska Senior Citizen Center and was a faithful supporter of the Kalkaska Museum, St. Mary of the Woods Bingo and Chalker Park.
Surviving are his children, Suzanne (Joseph) Gram of San, Diego, Calif., and George "Paul" Brignac Jr. of Broken Arrow, Okla.; grandchildren Kimberly Graas, Joseph Graas II and Anna Marie Graas; sister-in-law, Pat Sheldon of Fort Worth, Texas; brother-in-law, John Coffey of Edmond, Okla.; and nine nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Marie, on May 30, 1981.
There was a rosary and scripture service from Knights of Columbus on April 10. The Mass of Christian Burial was April 11 at St. Mary of the Woods. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wichita Falls, Texas.
