George M. Zirkle, 70, of Rapid City, died Tue, Dec 24, 1996, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Mr. Zirkle moved to Kalkaska County in 1973 from Williamston. He was employed by Consumers Power Co. prior to his retirement in 1984. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of Land O'Lakes VFW Post 8684 and the Elk Rapids Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling.
Mr. Zirkle was born in Saginaw on Jan 7, 1926, to Hugh and Irene Culver Zirkle. On Dec 1, 1945, in Saginaw, he married Shirley Bolger who survives.
Also surviving are sons George (Deanna), Fred (Ruth), and William, all of Rapid City; his mother Irene Zirkle of Saginaw; brother LaVerne of Jackson, SC; sisters Marjorie Eldred of Chicago, and Phyllis Laufer of Saginaw; 10 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. One brother, Junior, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were Dec 28 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Jerry Rupe, pastor of the Rapid City Church of Christ, officiated. Burial was in Clearwater Township Cemetery, Kalkaska County.
