George G. Kentala, 80, of Kalkaska, formerly of Allouez before moving to Wayne in 1966, passed away at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center LTC unit on Fri Aug 12, 2011. He was born on Sep 30, 1930 to the late William and Gladys (Koskiniemi) Kentala. George married Barbara "Betty" (Lammi) on Dec 27, 1952 in Mohawk.
George is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara "Betty"; sons, Ronald W. (Teresa) Kentala of Lincoln Park, and James K. (Julia) Kentala of Wayne; brothers in law, Walter Hamel of Laurium, and Kenneth Hendrickson of Allouez; two grandchildren, Brian (Cathi) Kentala of Canton, and Aaron Kentala of Wayne; one great grandchild, two step grandchildren; and six step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Douglas and Robert Kentala; and sisters, Phyllis Hamel and Betty Hendrickson.
George enjoyed many activities including deer hunting, fishing, horseshoes, and the casino. He retired from GM in 1987 after 20 years of devoted service. George went on to work for Alken-Ziegler of Kalkaska retiring in 1997.
A private family graveside memorial service will be held on Sep 30, 2011.
