George F. Pordon, 87, of Kalkaska, passed away on Nov 30, 2005 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Born on May 1, 1918, in Detroit, he was the son of Stanley and Anna (Krykant) Pordon.
George was a veteran of the US Navy serving our country during WWII. He was on the LSM 228 that was the first ship to land on the beach at Okinawa.
George married Dorothea B. Szostak on Aug 8, 1938, in Detroit and she preceded him in death. He retired from the General Motors Corp. Plant of Cadillac Motor Car of Detroit in 1974 after 35 years of service.
George and Dorothea moved to Kalkaska in 1974 from Southfield. George was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council 7419, Fourth Degree and served as the Financial Secretary for five years, and as a Grand Knight for three years.
Surviving George are his son, Ronald G. (Elizabeth) Pordon of Southfield; grandchildren, Anne (Luay) Istanbuli of Ypsilanti, Gregory Pordon of Ypsilanti, Rebecca Pordon of Walled Lake, Patrick Pordon, Joseph Pordon, and Jane Pordon all of Southfield; and his great grandson, Yasin Istanbuli.
The visitaiton was held on Sun, Dec 4, from 1 to 8 pm, with the scripture service at 7 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial was on Mon at 11 am at St Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Barrand officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
