LaPonsie drowned about 6:30pm Sat in Mongene Lake at Cottage Park, Dafter Township. LaPonsie went to the assistance of a swimmer in trouble, and slipped off into deep water. When the swimmer was brought to shore, LaPonsie was missed, and other persons attempted to locate him by diving. Unable to locate him, Sheriff Stanley McKee and State Police were notified. The body was recovered at 8:51pm in about eight feet of water, the sheriff reported.
Gary LaPonsie was born in Brimley, Mar 8, 1938 and attended Brimley Schools. He had been employed in Round Lake, IL for the past three years, where his marriage took place Jun 22, 1963.
He is survived by his widow, Veronica; a son Gary Jr; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William LaPonsie of Brimley; three sisters, Mrs. Clayton (Ida) Scales, Round Lake, Mrs. John (Fern) Fault, Sault Ste Marie, and Mrs. Frank (Marsha) Mongene of Brimley.
He also leaves seven brothers, John and Eugene of Dafter, Andy and Larry of Kinross, James of Round Lake, and Arty and David of Brimley.
Friends may call at the Hovie Funeral Home, where services will be conducted Tue at 1:30pm with the Rev. Ralph Birky officiating. Burial will be in Kinross Cemetery.
