Gail Crouch, 81, of Cheboygan passed away at Cheboygan Health Care on Mon, Jan 28, 2002.
He was born on Apr 29, 1920, in Garfield Township, Kalkaska County. Gail was the son of William and Ella (Calkins) Crouch. He served in the Army and was a veteran of WWII. After the war he drove a truck for Anderson's Lumber Company until he went sailing on the Great Lakes. He sailed on several freighters and stayed on the Ralph S. Caulkins for more than 17 years. He then sailed for Bradley Transportation for five years until 1964. He worked on several jobs as a member of the Carpenters and Pile Drivers Union until he went to work as a custodian for the Cheboygan Area Schools. After retirement he helped run the Dutch Hutch, a gift shop of which he was part owner.
Gail enjoyed card-playing, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
Gail married Helen Smith of Vanderbilt, on Jul 28, 1952. Survivors include his wife, Helen Crouch; and children Kathy Mason, Cheryl Jones, Vickie Rodriguez and Paul Crouch, all of Cheboygan. Other survivors include granddaughter Elizabeth "Liz" Jones of Cheboygan, grandson Bryan (Jill) Mason of Indian River, and great granddaughter Abbey Gayle Mason of Indian River.
Visitation was conducted at St Paul's United Methodist Church, Cheboygan. The Funeral was held at the church, with the Rev George Lewis officiating. Burial will be at Pinehill Cemetery in the spring.
