Francis Martin, 78, of Kalkaska died, Thu, Jun 24, 1999, at his home.

Francis resided in Lansing and East Lansing for 32 years prior to moving to Kalkaska in 1994. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and spent his early years in Illinois, where he graduated from a teacher's college. He later worked as a contractor and residential builder in the Lansing area. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. He was devoted to enriching the lives of family members, friends, and people in need. He had a great insight to identify the needs of others and gave support and encouragement to their successes. he enjoyed caring for his grandchildren, Civil War history, gardening and classical music. Francis especially loved and nurtured his family.
Born in Massac County, IL, on Nov 17, 1920, he is the son of Guy and Helen Lynn Martin. On Mar 15, 1975, in Lansing, he was united in marriage with Carolyn Lee Goodrich.
Brothers Raymond and Lynn Martin, and grandson Nathan Francis Schafer preceded him in death.
Surviving are wife Carolyn G. Martin, M.D.; children Kenneth W (Lynn) Schafer of Paw Paw, Katharine S (Steven) Hikcs of East Lansing, Gregory A (Kimberly) Martin of Miami, FL, Stephen D (Deborah) Martin of Delaware, OH, Tomiken VonKundra of Fairfax Station, VA, and Nick Kundra of Paris, France; grandchildren Elena Lisa Schafer, Carolyn Marie and Kristen Lee Hicks, Colleen G Martin and Gary (Cheryl) Martin; brothers Donald (Betty) Martin of Tower Hill, IL, Robert (Phyllis) Martin of Escondido, CA, and James (Bonnie) Martin of Mike Villa, KY; sister Lillian Weenstra of Ocala, FL; and his extended family.
Memorial services will be at South Baptist Church in Lansing on Sat, Jul 10 at 11 am; Pastor Lawrence G. Jones and Pastor Lawrence VanSlambrook will officiate. Interment will be in Wildey Cemetery in Paw Paw.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to West 4 Oncology Memorial Fund, Munson Medical Center, Traverse City, Kalkaska Memorial Health Center, Kalkaska, or the church of the donor's choice.
