Mrs. Florence “Flossie” E. Hawkins, aged 67, went to Heaven as an Angel on Wed, Feb 16, 2000, joining her daughter, Patti Jo Hawkins Carlton, her parents, a brother, Lyman Chollar and a sister, Patricia Lewis. Flossie recently had heart surgery in Sarasota, FL. For 16 years she worked as a supervisor at Wilson Sporting Goods and later worked at Jackson Products. Mrs. Hawkins was a member at the Jr. Kitchen Guild of Butterworth Hospital and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #102 in Rockford. She is remembered as a very generous and “upbeat” person who was always there for you and excellent in nurturing and spoiling those around her. She had a special way to make people laugh. Mrs. Hawkins was the “center” of her family, including her adopted family and her many friends both here and in Englewood, FL. Her interests evolved around reading books, shopping, playing games, making porcelain dolls and hunting for sharks teeth. She is survived by her husband, Olney Lee “Hawk” Hawkins with whom she would have celebrated 49 years of marriage next week; children, Beth Hawkins of Belmont, Susan and David Faber of Conklin, Kyle Hawkins of Chicago, Jeff Hawkins of Belmont and his fiancée Maria Koppendrayer of Comstock Park; 16 grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one more on the way; sister, Joan and Bob Nichols of Indian Lakes Estate, FL; a lifetime family friend, Ken Muilenberg of Belmont; Mr. Hawkins family, Luther and Connie Hawkins of Grandville, and Marie and Bob Remius of Saginaw; many nieces and nephews.
