Fairy I. Homan, 82, of Kalkaska and a former Mancelona resident, died on Mon, Feb 8, 1993 at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Long Term Care, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Homan was raised in Mancelona, and she lived in Mancelona until 1948. At that time she moved to Clio, and in 1980, she moved to Kalkaska. She was a graduate of Mancelona High School in 1927. She was a member of Snow Flake Camp for 46 years. In Clio from 1959 until 1971, she owned and operated Homan's Grocery Store. During WWII, she worked in Detroit in the defense factory.
Her greatest love was her grandchildren, and she enjoyed crocheting and gardening. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 8236 in Flint.
On Feb 28, 1910 in Mancelona she was born to Amos and Bertha (Lesher) Pitkin.
On Jan 27, 1928 in Mancelona she was married to Harvey F. Homan and he died in 1958.
She is survived by two sons, Richard L Homan and his wife Mary of Clio, and Harvey A Homan of Mancelona; two daughters, Helen R Richardson and her husband Robert and Barbara J Ball and her husband Rolland, all of Kalkaska; 17 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren; one brother, Frank Pitkin and his wife Lucille of Clio; and one sister, Phoebe Anderson and her husband Albert of Prescott, AZ.
Funeral services were held on Wed, Feb 10 at the Paullin Funeral Home in Mancelona with Rev Kathleen Corey officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona.
