Evelyn Southwell, 82, of Florida, formerly of Kalkaska, went to her new home in heaven to live with Jesus Christ her Lord, Sun, Jun 23, 2002, in Florida. She was born Nov 28, 1919, on a farm in Lake City, the daughter of William and Florence (Sheldon) McVicar.
Evelyn married Rex Southwell in Jan 1943, at her home in Lake City. Evelyn and Rex moved to Chicago where Rex was employed. Evelyn worked at the Cracker Jack factory packing "K" rations for the military until the spring of 1944 when Rex went into the military. Evelyn worked at a combined fruit market and grocery store in Pontiac until the war ended.
In 1946, she and Rex moved to Coldsprings Township and began their family. In 1983 they began to spend winters in Florida. In Evelyn's later years, she suffered severely with arthritis. Colder weather caused the pain to increase, so Evelyn and Rex remained in Florida beginning in 1994.
Evelyn is survived by her loving family including her husband Rex of 59 years; her children, who were all born in Colsprings Township; Kay E (Garland) Jex of Mt Rose, David B (Evelyn J) Southwell of Etters, PA, Donald G (Glenna E) Southwell of Wayne, IL, Delbert R (Gayle L) Southwell of Mancelona, Phillip G (Kimberly D) Southwell of Mancelona; 21 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Marian McKinney of Apple Valley, CA and Mary Hause of Phoenix, AZ.
Evelyn was preceded by the death of her parents and brothers Mike McVicar and William McVicar.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 am Wed, Jun 26, at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Evelyn's son Rev. David B Southwell will officiate. Interment will be at Coldsprings Township Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in behalf of Evelyn Southwell to the Calvary Baptist Church.
