Evelyn L. Belcher, 77, of Ionia, formerly of Kalkaska, died Thu, Sep 7, 2000, at her home.
Mrs. Belcher had resided in Portland until December when she moved to Ionia. Prior to her retirement she had been employed by Wayne County as a corrections officer. She was a graduate of Kalkaska High School, and enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and playing the lottery.
She was born in Kalkaska on Apr 21, 1923, the daughter of Burdette and Bertine Lewis Brown. On Jun 12, 1948, in Portland, she was united in marriage with Paul Belcher, who preceded her in death on Mar 14, 1985.
Surviving are sisters Doris Maxwell of Petoskey and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Brother George Brown and sister, Dorothy Rowe preceded her in death.
Funeral services were Sep 9 at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska; E. Dan Johnson, pastor of Kalkaska Church of Christ, officiated. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery in Kalkaska.
