Eugene Victor Bailey, 72, of Mancelona, died Sun, Jun 18, 2000, at Munson Medical Center following a 13-year illness.
Mr. Bailey was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration as a flight service specialist in Traverse City from 1960 until his retirement in 1986. A man of many interests, he enjoyed antique cars, wooden boats and snowmobiling, and was an avid pilot.
He was a member of the Traverse City Car Club, the Michigan Snowmobilers Association, and the Kalkaska and Antrim County snowmobile clubs. He was affiliated with the First Presbyterian Church of Elk Rapids. Eugene will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Mr. Bailey was born in Kalkaska County on Jun 14, 1928, the son of Cecil and Catherine Denches Bailey. On Aug 15, 1950, in Elmira, he was united in marriage to Mary Alice Schaff, who survives.
Besides his wife, he is survived by son David (Mary Bridget) Bailey of Williamsburg; daughters Marsha (Melvin) Browning of Interlochen and Ruth Ann Bailey of Empire; brother Gordon (Betty) Bailey of Owosso; sisters Loretta (Jim) Burgett of Kansas City, MO, Lydia (Duane) Hershberger of Williamsburg, and Larua (Dan) Huffman of Hesperia; grandchildren Brandy (Tom) Gallagher of Grand Rapids, Heather Marie (Aaron) Cody of Kalamazoo, Brian Lee Zionskowski of Interlochen, Courtney (Randy) Elkin of Kalkaska, Jamie Zionskowski of Interlochen, Tyler (Renee) Nickels of Kalkaska and Josh Bailey of Williamsburg; and great granddaughters Eden, Brittney, and Natosha Jade Elkin.
Parents Cecil Bailey and Catherine Bailey Boik, and brother Warren Bailey, preceded him in death.
A service in appreciation of the life of Eugene Bailey is scheduled for 2 pm Wed, Jun 21 at the First Presbyterian Church of Elk Rapids; Rev Dan Herlein will officiate. Interment will be in Coldsprings Township Cemetery, Kalkaska County.
Arrangements were made by the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
