Eugene J. Kuiawa, 71, of Kalkaska, died Tue, May 20, 1997, at his residence.
Mr. Kuiawa moved to Kalkaska in 1986, from Downers Grove, IL. He had retired from Western Union in 1985, following 38 years of service. Mr. Kuiawa served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, and a member of St. Joseph the Worker Council 7419 - Knights of Columbus. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and lapidary.
He was born on Aug 27, 1925, in Wakefield, to Frank and Ann Zazeski Kuiawa. On Jul 25, 1953 in Milwaukee, WI, he married Grace Koch, who survives.
Also surviving are brother, Leo (Joan) Kuiawa of Kalkaska; sister Barbara (Joseph) Finco of Ironwood; one sister in law, Sophie Kuiawa of Big Bay, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Casey and Basil.
A Scripture service was held Thu, May 22, at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
Mass of Christian Burial was recited Fri, May 23, at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church. Father James Holtz officiated.
Burial was in St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Cemetery, Kalkaska County.
