Mrs. Harrison (Ethel) Dorsey, 54, of Petoskey was killed last night at about 6:25 pm when she was struck by a pickup truck while attempting to walk across E. Mitchell St. near the Petoskey St. intersection.
Petoskey City Police said that Mrs. Dorsey was dead on arrival at Little Traverse Hospital after being struck by a truck driven by Paul Lambert Jr, 27, of Levering.
Police said that Mrs. Dorsey crossed in front of the truck as it was heading east on Mitchell St.
Petoskey's last auto fatality inside the city limits was May 22, 1965. The last pedestrian killed by an auto was in 1964 and the city had gone seven years 11 months without a vehicle fatality.
Mrs. Dorsey was taken to Little Traverse by city-county ambulance.
Police are still investigating circumstances surrounding the accident.
Services for Ethel Mae Dorsey will be held Friday from the Stone Funeral Home at 2 pm. Captain Stanely Magoon, of the Salvation Army, will officiate and interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
She was born Ethel Canell Jan 14, 1919 in Petoskey and she attended Petoskey schools. She has been employed at Montgomery Ward & Co and Hayner's Motel.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Marilyn) Honeysette, of Toledo, OH; Mrs. Elaine Parrott of Harbor Springs and Rene Harris o fPetoskey; one granddaughter; her mother, Mrs. Ernest (Iva) Canell, of Petoskey; three sisters, Mrs. John (Ozella) Bearup, of Flint, Mrs. Orvella Kolhmeyer of Lansing and Orthella Canell, of Rochester, NY and three brothers, Herbert, of Cheboygan, Harvey of Petoskey and Henry of Rochester, NY.
Friends may call at the Stone Funeral Home beginning Thursday afternoon.
