Mrs. Esther R. Packer, 67, of Alden, passed away Mon, Aug 11, 1997, at her home.
Mrs. Packer spent her early years in Alden, and then lived in Saginaw and Traverse City before returning to Alden in 1988. For 12 years, she served as a volunteer with the World Gospel Missionaries. She was a member of the Bellaire Wesleyan Church, and enjoyed cake decorating.
Mrs. Packer was born in Alden on Mar 3, 1930. On May 31, 1948, in Alden, she married Clyde Packer who survives.
Besides her husband, she is survived by sons Steven Packer of Cedar Rapids, IA and William Packer of Lansing; daughters Cathryn Chilson of Sauk Rapids, MN, Cheryl Whitsel of Alden, Paula Gray of Chicago, and Marlene Overmyer of Jonesboro, IN; her mother Hazel Dickson of Alden; brothers Clarence Smith of Traverse City and Harry Dickson of Alden; sisters Helen Lewis of Pontiac and Wava Donkers of Traverse City; and 18 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Alden United Methodist Church. Rev. Douglas Beadle officiated. Interment was in Clearwater Township Cemetery, Kalkaska County. Memorial gifts may be made to the Bellaire Wesleyan Church Building Fund or Northwest Michigan Hospice.
