Lifelong Leetsville resident, Esther Lorraine Sherwood, 77, passed away on March 16, 2009. She was born on May 24, 1931 in Leetsville to the late Dewey Samson and Zelma Reatha (Lewis) Thornburg.
Esther married Robert "Bobcat" Sherwood on June 11, 1949 in Kalamazoo. Together they raised 4 wonderful sons. Esther liked fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, and baking. She would befriend all wildlife and enjoyed watching the lake and all of its wonders. Esther loved her grandchildren and her pets. She was a member of the V.F.W. Post 8684 Auxiliary and served as their treasurer. Esther was a member of the Rebeccas and of the Coldsprings Christian Fellowship Church.
Surviving Esther are her devoted sons, John Dewey (Kathy) Sherwood of Traverse City, Jerry Robert Sherwood of Leetsville, Jack Randal (Karen) Sherwood of Leetsville, and Joey "Jobo" Daniel (Wanette) Sherwood of Leetsville; her loving siblings, Darwin (Jean) Thornburg of South Boardman, Kenneth (Barb) Thornburg of Leestville, Wilma (Melvin) Lindahl of Fife Lake and Ronald (Judy) Thornburg of Kalkaska; 15 cherished grandchildren; and 13 precious great-grandchildren.
Esther was preceded in death by parents; her loving husband, Robert; and her siblings, Ruth Ann Thornburg and Walter Thornburg.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19th from 2–4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 20th at 11:00 a.m. at Coldsprings Christian Fellowship Church with Pastor Brent Bontrager presiding. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
