Cockerill, Ernest F. – of Clio, age 91, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Masonic Pathways in Alma. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Pastor Erik Cloeter officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-9 PM, Friday from 11-2 and 4-9 PM and Saturday from 12 noon until time of service.
Ernie was born August 24, 1920 in Flint, Michigan to the late Clyde and Nettie (Stork) Cockerill. He graduated from Davison High School in 1940, Baker Business College in 1947 and GMI in 1957. Ernie married Marilyn Fell in 1945 and she preceded him in death in 1979. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He served in the European Theatre and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was employed by GM-SPO for 36 years as a systems analyst. He retired in 1982. Ernie was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, the American Legion and the VFW. Ernie later married Alice Hausler on September 17, 1994. He enjoyed dancing of all kinds, especially clogging and square dancing. He also enjoyed travel.
Surviving are: wife, Alice; Children: Barbara Pressler, Diane (John) Ringer, Sharon (Steve) Womack and Michael Cockerill. 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. 3 sisters: Lucille Slankard, Carolyn Cockerill and Joyce Lynn. Brother: Harold Cockerill.
