Erastus Barney Hodge, one of Charlevoix’s best known citizens, died at his home in this city Oct 30, after a long illness.
Mr. Hodge was born in Morristown, NY, May 11, 1845, and moved to Michigan in 1870 coming to Charlevoix twenty-five years ago and engaging in the harness business.
Mr. Hodge enlisted in Co. H, 14th N.Y. H.A., Nov 2, 1863, and was honorably discharged at Annapolis, Maryland, Jun 7, 1865. Mr. Hodge was a prominent Grand Army man, having been a member of McPherson Post, Traverse City, and joining Baxter Post on his removal to this city, and has served as quarter-master and commander.
He leaves one daughter, Mrs. Dorr Armstrong of Traverse City, two brothers and four sisters, Mrs. C. R. Bellinger of this city being one of them.
The funeral was held Tue, under the auspices of Baxter Post, G.A.R. and W.R.C.
