Emma (Oleson) Lewis Gath, 94, a lifelong resident of Kalkaska, passed away Feb 28, 2001, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center with many of her family by her side.
Emma was born in Oliver Township on Feb 13, 1907, the daughter of Oluf and Mary Jane (Kniss) Oleson. On May 28, 1927, in Kalkaska, she married Raymond Lewis who died on Nov 7, 1967. She married Wesley Gath in Kalkaska on Aug 19, 1970, and he preceded her in death on Dec 2, 1975.
Emma was a longtime member of the Town and Country Helping Hands Club, and she enjoyed sewing, writing, and receiving letters, and travel. She was a well known wallpaper hanger throughout the Kalkaska County area from 1942 until 1979.
Surviving are children Betty (Robert) Dunham, Del (Lucille) Lewis, Sam (Mary Lee) Lewis, Evelyn (Ronald) Biship, and Dixie (Raymond) Short, all of Kalkaska; 20 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Mar 3 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska; E. Dan Johnson officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.
