Elton "Wayne" Miller, 72, of Traverse City, died Tue, Feb 9, 1999, at his home. He had lived in the Traverse City area for the last 50 years.
Born Aug 10, 1926, in Garfield Township, Kalkaska County, he was the son of Bert A. and Marguerite A (Anker) Miller. He married A. Lucille Lund on Aug 19, 1948, in South Boardman.
Mr. Miller was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Marines. He retired from Michigan Bell Telephone after 34 years of employment. He was a charter member of the Buckley Old Engine Show and a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
He enjoyed music, played and build dulcimers and enjoyed dancing with his wife, with whom he wintered in Gulf Shores for the past 14 years. He enjoyed building and spending time at his cabin on the farm where he was raised. He had a wonderful sense of humor and has taught his family much through his attitude in the last few years.
Survivors include his wife Lucille; daughters Sue (Keith) Kling of Appleton, wI, Ruth (Chuck) Bissell of Beulah, Mary (Art) Grubb and Lois (Fred) Bishop, both of Traverse City; brother Newton (Lucille) Miller of South Boardman; sisters Joan (Ralph) Clous of Kingsley and Lorene Sieffert of Kalkaska; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Nita, Maisy, Myrna, Edna, and Yvonne.
Funeral services were held Feb 13 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City; the Rev. Dan Biteman and the Rev. Marvin Rosa officiated.
Cremation took place following the service, and burial of the cremains will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to the family, hospice, or to Grawn United Methodist Church.
