Elizabeth Jane Bovee, 94, a lifelong resident of Traverse City, passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016 with family at her side.
Betty was born on May 12, 1922 in Traverse City to the late Bert and Florence (Skellett) Williams. She married Thomas R. Bovee on Feb. 22, 1941 at Central Methodist Church.
Betty and her husband proudly owned and operated the Surf Side Motel and the Sierra Motel in Acme and Traverse City.
She was a member of the former Asbury Methodist Church, a life member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Child Study group #10.
Betty and Tom enjoyed spending the winter months in Ocala, Florida.
Betty and Tom were also members of the Traverse City Elks Lodge.
Betty was a wonderful dancer. She enjoyed cooking, golfing and spending time with her family. She was a beautiful lady with a kind heart and she will be missed by all who knew her.
Surviving Betty are her children, John (Helen) Bovee, of Traverse City, and Sandra (Tad) Figgott, of Lake Mary, Florida; grandchildren, Scott and Katherine Szurgot; and great-grandchildren, Scotty Szurgot and Tommy Alvarez.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband and granddaughter, Jami Carney.
