Eleanor Rupp, first women to serve on the board of trustees of the Ojai Unified School District, died Saturday in her Ojai home after a long illness.
Mrs. Rupp served on the school board from 1966 to 1977, and was recognized as being largely responsible for the creation of a districtwide remedial reading program. Services for Mrs. Rupp were Monday. Her ashes will be inurned at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.
Mrs. Rupp, the wife of Dr. John Rupp, was born Feb. 19, 1916, in Los Angeles, and was a county resident for 39 years, coming from Santa Barbara.
Mrs. Rupp was a homemaker and a graduate of the Knap College of Nursing in Santa Barbara. She was a past president of the Ojai Garden Club and a past member of the Ventura County Symphony Association. Besides her husband, Mrs. Rupp is survived by sons John Jr and Daniel of Ojai and Stewart of Encinitas, Mexico; daughter Marion Leeman of Ojai; sister Betty Denning of Altadena; brother Richard Burns of Bakersfield; and nine grandchildren.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Ojai chapter of the American Field Service or to Ojai Biblical Gardens. Funeral arrangements were handled by Clausen Funeral Home, Ojai.
