Edna May Balkwell, 85, of Kalkaska, died Mar 9, 1998, at home with her family. She was born Jul 2, 1912, in Boone, IA. She was a prior Lapeer resident who had lived in Oakland County for six years, then resided in Kalkaska for the past four years.
Mrs. Balkwell married Edward A. Balkwell Jr on Mar 25, 1931 in Pontiac. He preceded her in death in 1986. She was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Kalkaska, and loved arts and crafts.
Surviving are her son Frederic W. (Beverly) Balkwell of Kalkaska, and daughter in law Rose Marie Balkwell of Lapeer, grandchildren Thomas Balkwell of Oxford, Terry (Richard) Montgomery of Lapeer, Michael (Marsha) Balkwell of Lapeer, Sandra Freeland of Lapeer, kendra (Marty) Smith of Clarkston and Timothy (Veronica) Streeter of Iceland; 10 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Besides her husband, her son Edward A. Jr. preceded her in death in 1991.
Memorial contributions may be given to North Country Hospice.
Funeral services were held March 12 at the Baird-Newton Funeral Home in Lapeer. Father Douglas Terrien officiated. Burial was in the Stiles Cemetery.
