Earl A. Root, 94, of Kalkaska died Sat, Dec 6, 1997, at his home after a long, extraordinarily productive lifetime, still working at his beloved tooling trade until his death.
The oldest of five children, Earl was born Apr 9, 1903, in Rollin Township, Lenawee County, to Harvey and Jennie (Hoadley) Root. On Jul 2, 1950, he married Ruby Hamacher Nelson, who died May 17, 1997. He was also preceded in death by his sister Wilma Nicholson, brothers Darrel Root and Carl Root and his sister in law Retha (Ray) Parker.
Surviving are step-children Bruce (Lorraine) Nelson of Lakeview, and Cheryl Shields of Bradenton, FL; step grandchildren Rick Nelson of Coopersville, and Chris Cornell of Greenville, SC; brother Floyd (Marjorie) Root of San Jacinto, CA; brother in law Max (Ruth) Hamacher of Hudsonville and sister in law Arlene Gyurkovitz of Grand Rapids.
He will be sorely missed by many acquaintances, special friends and admirers in the Kalkaska area. Many admired his mechanical "genius" and enjoyed visiting with him and were in awe of his talent, wit and amazingly keen mind.
Funeral services were held Dec 10 at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. E. Dan Johnson officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.
