E. Duane Johnston, 72, of Kalkaska, passed away on Dec 7, 2011. He was born on Aug 12, 1939 in Emmet County, MI to the late Stuart W. and Hildred C. (Fay) Johnston.
Duane married Margarete "Margie" Miller on Oct 22, 1966 in Kalkaska. He was the proud father of two wonderful children.
Duane retired from Michigan Department of Transportation after 37 years of service. He then worked for the Kalkaska County Sheriff's Department as a corrections officer for over a decade.
Duane loved hunting, camping, and spending time at his cabin. He enjoyed watching sports and coached Little League Baseball and Softball for about 18 years. Duane was a member of the People's Church.
He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Duane dedicated his life to the service of others. He will be deeply missed by all those that knew and loved him.
Duane is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Margie; his loving children, Jodi J (Bob) Boldra of Peoria, AZ and Matthew P (Kristine) Johnston of Boston, MA, his cherished grandson, Brody M Boldra of Peoria, AZ; and dear sister, Shirley K (Norma) Schneider of Bliss, MI.
Visitation for Duane was held on Fri, Dec 9, 2011 from 5 to 8 pm at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home. Funeral services were held on Sat at 11 am at the People's Church with Pastor Steve Packer officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
