Douglas "Doug" Gerald Lutz, 78, of Traverse City, passed away unexpectedly at his daughter's residence in Franklin, IN on Jan 12, 2020.
He was born on Feb 9, 1941 in Traverse City, to Gerald and Delcia (Davis) Lutz.
Doug married Mary Hall on May 25, 1968; she lovingly survives.
He is also survived by his son, Mark (Susan) Lutz; daughter, Louise Warriner; daughter, Elizabeth Lutz; grandchildren, Douglas, Kimberlee, Victoria, and Max; and sister, Doreen Underwood.
He was preceded in passing by his parents.
Doug was a 1959 graduate of Traverse City Central High School and attended college for two years.
He was a veteran of the US Army.
Doug was employed by the Traverse City Post Office, retiring after 35 years of dedicated service.
Doug was an avid reader of spy novels and books on American History. He always encouraged young people to read, especially his grandchildren. When asked why he was so good at trivia questions, he would say, "That's because I am a lifelong reader."
He enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, traveling and watching sports, especially baseball. He loved pizza, burgers and his wife's chocolate pie. He was very content with life and was a wonderful family man.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sat, Jan 18, 2020 from 1 to 4 pm at the Bingham Township Hall at 7171 S. Center Hwy, Traverse City, MI 49684.
