Dorothy Vipond Hollifield, 88, of Kalkaska passed away on Sat, May 5, 2007, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center - LTC. Born on Oct 11, 1918, in Kalkaska, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Janet "Jenny" (Warcup) Vipond.
A lifelong resident, Dorothy was a WWII veteran serving as a 2nd Lieutenant in US Army, stationed in North Africa and Italy. Shortly after her discharge from the military she began working as an RN for Dr. William Kitti, then for Kalkaska Memorial Health Center. She and Thelma Strahan were thenursing staff for KMHC upon its opening. Dorohty was a member of the Eve Club and served on the KMHC Executive Committee.
Dorothy was the beloved mother of Jane L (John) Findley of Traverse City, Jean L (Kent) Strahan of Marlow, OK, and Janet L Hollifield of Kalkaska; the devoted grandmother of 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; cherished sister of Olga (Jake) Schoeppler of Chardon, OH, Max (Virginia) Vipond of Lake Odessa, and Shirley (Jack) Deardorff of Irving, TX.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Charles Hollifield; her infant son, and siblings, Janet Earl and Patricia Spencer.
Visitation was Mon, May 7 at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home. The funeral service was Tue at the funeral home with Pastor Matt Moser of the Calvary Baptist Church officiating. The Kalkaska VFW Post 8684 and Beebe-Sherwood Post 480 American Legion will be providing military honors at Evergreen Cemetery.
