Dorothy M (Coppens) Matus, 83, of South Rd, Enfield, died Sun, Oct 17, 2004 at Parkview Specialty Hospital in Springfield. She was the beloved wife of the late Edmund S Matus and daughter of the late Solomon and Gertrude (Dorsey) Coppens. Born in Michigan City, IN, Dorothy has been a resident of the Enfield Community for 50 years. She served in the Army Nursing Corps during WWII where she met her late husband. She went on to serve as a nurse for many years for several area doctors.
Dorothy was a communicant of St. Bernard's Church in Enfield and past member of the Women's Club of Enfield. She loved listening to music and watching the UCONN women's basketball.
Dorothy was a friend to many and was of great comfort to her friends and family in need of helpful advice. She was a wonderful friend, mother, and grandmother and she will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her two sons, James E. Matus of Hartford and Edward W Matus of Enfield; two brothers, Jack Coppens of Charlevoix, MI and James Coppens and his wife Sue Anne of Crystal River, FL; two sisters, Alice Diggisn and her husband Vance of Empire, MI and Barbara Vogel and her husband, George of Suttons Bay, MI; a grandson, Samuel Matus of Enfield; and a sister in law, Sue Rurack of Deerfield, MA.
Besides her husband and parents, she is predeceased by a brother, Robert Coppens.
A funeral in celebration of her life will begin on Fri, Oct 22, at 9:45 am from the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd, Enfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. Burial with military honors will be at St. Bernard's Cemetery. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Thu, from 5 to 8 pm at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels.
