Dorothy Elizabeth Anderson, age 91, of 15 Mile Road in Dafter, Michigan, died peacefully at her home on Monday, May 31, 2004 surrounded by her family. She was born on May 6, 1913 in Pickford, Michigan to the late James Sampson Steele and Janet (Stewart) Steele. She attended the Pickford Schools, graduating in 1930. In high school she was active in all the plays and won a prize for the best-baked bread.
On September 6, 1930, Dorothy married Frank Westover in St. Ignace, Michigan. They resided in the Flint, Michigan area for several years and then moved to Pickford area where they raised their nine children. Frank died in 1959 after a lengthy illness. Dorothy married Charles N. Anderson in 1966 and they spent many happy years together.
Dorothy was an avid reader and enjoyed making clothing for her family. She was a wonderful cook and made the greatest cinnamon buns.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Charles; eight children, Judith Hermann of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Janet (Henry) Sczcepanski of East Tawas, Michigan, Joan (Bill) Henderson of Cedarville, Michigan, Pat (Carl) Dosenbach and Ron (Heiki) Westover, both of Sault Ste. Marie, Linda (Alan) Reamer of Pickford, Laurie (Bill) Payment, and Wendy (John) Bjunes, both of Sault Ste. Marie; 30 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Rhona and Lorene (Vere) Nunn; and one brother, Greely L. Steele.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved son James “Ricky” Westover and two precious grandchildren, Jackie Dosenbach and Jimmy John Payment. Also preceding her in death were her sisters, Isabel Owaski and Inez Norstrom and her brother, William Steele.
Burial will be in Cottle Cemetery, Marquette Township, Michigan.
