Dorothy Ann Christie, age 94, a resident of Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming, entered eternal life Friday afternoon, Jan 6, 2023, in the loving, comforting care of her son Robert. Dorothy was born Oct 16, 1928, in Ann Arbor, MI. An orphan, she was adopted by Donald and Lela (Sly) Stacy and raised in Flint. She graduated from St. Matthew High School in Flint, Class of 1946, and was employed with Bell Telephone in the downtown Flint office. On Oct 2, 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert W. Christie and together the couple made their home in Flint. At the time, the C.S. Mott Foundation was offering scholarships to pay the tuition for those wishing to pursue a teaching career.
Dorothy enrolled at the University of Michigan – Flint, graduating with honors in 1964. For many years she taught third grade at the Neithercut Elementary School. When Bob decided to leave General Motors following 16 years of service, to pursue a career in real estate, the couple moved to Florida where he had established an office in Naples. For a time, Dorothy resumed her teaching career before accepting employment as a commercial loan officer with a local bank, from where she retired. The couple eventually relocated to Marquette to be closer to their son Robert and his wife, Ruthann. In her leisure, Dorothy enjoyed home decorating and keeping up with the latest news, especially the cable network newscasts. She was a member of the Michigan Education Association.
Dorothy is survived by a son, Robert Christie of Marquette; a grandson, Jason (Becky) Christie of Morrisville, NC; great grandchildren, Owen Christie and twins, Liberty and Layla Christie; a sister, Onalee Williams of Beverly Hills, FL. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 2019; a son, James Christie in 2018; her daughter in law, Ruthann Christie, in 2012; and a brother and sister in law, Hollis and Beverly Netzloff. Graveside services will be held at the Park Cemetery, Marquette, this summer. Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services is serving the family.
