Doris Mathilda Rasmussen passed on to her heavenly home on Sun, Jul 17, 2005 at Bortz Health Care of Petoskey surrounded by her family and extended family of Bortz friends.
Funeral service will be held at 2pm on Wed, Jul 20 at the Petoskey United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Mitchum officiating. Visitation will be held 6 to 8pm today, Tue, Jul 19, at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey.
Doris was born January 24, 1924, in Detroit, the daughter of David and Elvira (Conant)Anderson. She graduated from Northwestern High School in Detroit and moved to Petoskey with her family.
She was employed at Mihcigan Maple Block until her marriage to Vern Rasmussen on February 9, 1944, in Petoskey.
Doris was a homemaker living on the Rasmussen family dairy farm south of Petoskey. She was devoted to raising three children and caring for her grandchildren.
Doris was a member of the Rolling Acres Farm Bureau, 20-30 Homemakers Study Group, life member of the VFW Post 2051 Auxiliary and a member of the Petoskey United Methodist Church.
Doris is survived by a son, Richard and Andrea Rasmussen of Smithfield, RI; two daughters, Mrs. Ellen Brennan and Mrs. Linda and Scott Leech, all of Petoskey; also grandchildren, Tina (Rasmussen) Kempner and husband, Jeffrey, of Chelmsford, MA, Pfc Eric Leech serving in Iraq (wife, Samantha residing in German), Jason Leech and Jennifer Leech of Petoskey; and three great grandchildren, Ethan and Shannon Kempner and Garrison Leech of Boyne City; and very special friends, Albert and Helen Gruler; and many nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Vern; parents, David and Elvira; stepmother, Effie Anderson; and brothers, Rolland, Richard, Roy, and Robert Anderson.
Donations may be sent to the family for their memorial contribution to Bortz Health Care and to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
